From “Ghostbusters” To “Robocop,” These Kids Shows Were Based On Movies Meant For Grown-Ups

Turning a successful film into a TV show can be a gamble. On the one hand, a movie with a built-in audience may seem like an easy way to launch a new series. But on the other, it is quite hard to match the fans’ expectations and the original material’s quality. Some of the greatest blockbusters of the past years have successfully transitioned to kids’ TV shows, although they might not be as popular as the movies they were inspired by. Here are some examples of movies-turned-cartoon shows you might not know about.

Ace Ventura: Pet Detective

The 1994 comedy film Ace Ventura: Pet Detective starred Jim Carrey as the lead character, who specialized in finding missing animals. In 1995, an animated TV show based on the movie was launched and was a hit with kids, lasting three seasons.

Did you know that the Ace Ventura animated series was produced by Morgan Creek Productions, the same company that produced the original films? It was created by Duane Capizzi and Jeff Kline, and it ran for three seasons, from 1995 to 2000.
