Nevermind Batman, These Jokers Have Taken Over The Screen

The Joker, the iconic villain from the DC comics, has been portrayed by various actors throughout the years in different films and TV shows. In some cases, the character has even overshadowed his nemesis, Batman. But what is it about this character that makes him so fascinating? Perhaps it is his unpredictability, twisted sense of humor, or just the pure evil that emanates from him. The Joker was originally created as a one-off villain for Batman’s first appearance in Detective Comics #27 in 1939. Still, the character became so popular that he has remained a mainstay in the Batman universe ever since.

Not many were impressed when Joaquin Phoenix won an Oscar for his work in the 2019 film Joker. His interpretation was a gritty, dark, and realistic take on the character that left both audiences and critics wanting more.

Phoenix played the character as a sympathetic, tragic figure, exploring the character’s origins and descent into madness. But the actor had to face some sacrifices. He lost 52 pounds for the role, and the weight loss had a huge impact on his mental and physical health.
